We have fcSsfcft talking about it for so many years that it may seen to some as if ^ e V e were nothing real shout it,but there truly is a "real" building as far as the roof. The roof timbers were very slow in coning down from Tientsin and by the time they arrived,it was too cold to work any longer* /e were very much disappointed, altho somewhat familiar with the slow xktc of progress made in anything, in China, but still we had hopes of kfttfeir the'building ready £oaofc&etMd580Hpy.aa>/ntll hr ..Wolf e, our mission bu-ycyy aame down to look things over ami slid that altho he would come to help'with the building,it would not be ready for use until fall. This was especially disappointing to me for I will be leaving on furlough In June, hut I ara also especially glad that when others have to take over the work that they will have this nice large convenient building to work jn" It will be much easier to superintend the school with all the classes in*one building, and with an efface for the principal there also, Kr.Wolfe ka» '&&er> en-^a^ed In Ferchou,Shansi,in building a large hospital plant for our mission so was not able to cone to us sooner; with Mis help, the work will °-o along nuch bettor and we are so thankful that he can come* ° i/e added the last year of higher primary to our course this fall, which means that the girls can finish their nrimary education here and be ready to teach in the lower grades. If they have to roto our school at Techou to finish,it takes much rare money and raany of the girls can not afford tc go. Two girls finished the eecend § vear of- the higher primary work last year#-another girl had to drop out because of ill health, and take special work-,and a former pupil came back, so are now three girls in the highest class. The higher primary in China has three years work irstaal of four as we have in Anerica,so seven years are required to finish too work we give. '.*y . We aUso added three day pupils,-three^thers cane but said it was ore coll in the rooms and so stopped coningi-and there will be others when school opens again. There are several large 'girls at the chapel day school w h o c u ^ t to be. in this school and GO we plan tc have an old woman escort them up here in the morning and take them back at night. We ao not know how many will take advantage of this opportunity for some of their parents object to their girls going out such a distance, tut there are sure to be several. Later we hope some of them wil.l come to board here but that r eanS that they will have tc unbind their feet also and most of then are not ready to do that. When we have the new bull U n a we hope to make our day pupil department a large one to include the children In our c:m err pound and the neighbor c7 y.l lren.Anri.1 it tf.ay>a arranged so that tfc 3 girlc 'who are doing - tatting in the in-ainaerinl £chco£ -am be taken in here, either as day pupils, studying half tbe tir.^'ar ns boarding pupils earning their.board with their tatting. ,.'e do "ant all the girls possible to 'have, a chance to >tuly' at least the lower pri;rary work, and we are quite hopeful that we can do nuch along that line with the rooir afforded by the new building. We had twentv-eight boarders this senester and each paid about half the cost of her ^enrd. It does not seen wise to increase that anount when the industrial work has to be discontinued while I am not here, but we hope to raise it later and to keep on until they pay the full anount of their board. Tbe girls brot in a great deal of crocheting last fall and soi e have kept% on with that work during the daily sewing period so as to earn the anount lacking in their fcod noney. We have had no special fund for this work and no it has been rather difficult at tines to keep it going, but now we have such a fund which makes us very happy. When hrs.ZSliis' had to go home on furlough, there was no one to take over the industrial work which she had started,so that had to be close* for a tine;.there was then some money in hand, part of which she was lzi.nl enough to give to the school for an industrial fund, fhis has been added to by other gifts and we hope that it will grow so that we con not only keep the in Lustrial work going to help the girls with their education here, but that it can- also be used to help then. *f#l on to Teohots and Peking for further study. When that tine corner ae can expect to have good teachers in our schools and not have to depend on those who have had very ]ittle education and no training for teaching. Una teachers this year are three girls who were formerly pupils in this school; one of them has been in a governrao\ - bc^3 for throe or four years ana is not a success, as a teacher,Hut cue ~tW fctr&,who lra?e lima ma m\ tw--ywfl-i*fl*«*Uvsiy at our a«h©ei ia rachou, are loing very well.
