Description |
March 10, 1903, Vernal City Council met with official from Salt Lake City to take final action on the electric light franchise. They made a trip to the Ashley Canyon looking for a power site location. The plant should be completed in eighteen months. Residents look forward to having electricity and are able to replace their coal oil lights, as the cost of the oil 10 to 50 cents. The cost of the sixteen candle power lights will be .75 for the first light and .60 for each additional light. In 1907, Allis-Chalmers delivered eighty tons of freight, twenty-five being delivered to the Ashley Power Plant, for construction of the Ashley Gorge Power Plant. The consideration named in the contract is $20, 028. Besides this sum of money the directors estimate that he mill building, foundation, excavations, and poles from the power site to Vernal will cost another $15,000 making the total cost of the entire power plant and mill when in running order $35,000. |
