H. J. Broos, Aoting Agent, submitted a letter of inquiry relative to this fund which has not yet boen answered. The Indians will doubtless be asking as to the next annuity payment, usually made in the third quarter, and as matters now stand no information whatever oan bo given. This office should be advised as to tho aotual oondition of this fund, and the amount ^ue this tribe. If the Offloe could furnish some information as to whothor the judgement roderod in favor of the Ute Indians something over a year ago, about 53,400,000 as I understand, is boing allowed to stand, and when the fund would booorae available and for what purposes, it would be of great aid in'planning on industrial program looking to tho dovelopment of the Indian allotments here and the porfeoting of tho water rights* / : There is oomo doubt here as to whether all or only a portion of tho $50,740 "Support of Confederated Band of Utos, 1912", goes to this plaoe, or whother it applies also to the Southern Utos. It is quite impossible to dotormine hore how muoh of this fund has now boon hypothioated for those Indians for tho present fisoal yoar, henoo no plans oan bo made looking to the use of any avails able balanoo. All this information should be before this offioo as early as oan be, that planB may bo made to utilize all available balances |
