Description |
This thesis is a presentation of the factors involved in the preparation and performance of a selected program of choral music in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Music in Choral Conducting. The concert was presented in the East l{ill Creek Stake Center at 3600 South 3100 East Salt Lake City, Utah, 8 P.M., April 9, 1972. The first chapter deals with the procurement of singers and instrumentalists and a discussion concerning the choice of program numbers and order of their presentation. Physical facilities used in the concert are also described. Subsequent chapters are devoted to each composition performed. A short discussion of the composer's life is included to aid in understanding the style and techniques employed by the composer. The problems arising in the preparation of each composition are presented, and the solutions found by this conductor for the particular situation are discussed. The compositions are analyzed with regard to form, harmonic implications, and compositional techniques as aids toward interpretation. It is suggested that the reader have access to the music discussed in this thesis, inasmuch as references are made to page numbers and" specific problem areas which would be difficult to understand without the use of the printed page. However, musical examples have been included wherever possible. |
