Description |
Captain James White built this home on the banks of the Mississippi River sometime between 1824 and 1829, when Nauvoo was still known as the town of Venus, Illinois. It became Commerce in about 1834 and in 1839, the home became the first Nauvoo post office. This information was given by Dr. T. Edgar Lyon, in charge of the Nauvoo Restoration (1965- ). Nicholas G.
