Abstract The paper will address the negative impacts of low NOx control technologies that can occur during modification to the combustion process. In general, the combustion low NOx technologies are based on the combustion process delay or increase of the flue gas flow rate. These cause shifting of the high temperature zones in the furnace toward the furnace end and convective heat exchangers and increase of the flue gas temperatures in that direction. The higher flue gas temperatures and increased flow rate lead to the heat transfer intensification from the flue gas to the heat exchangers in these zones. The paper discusses the possible damage mechanism specifically for utility and industrial steam boilers after lowNOx control applications.
