Description The Great Stone Face, a few miles north of Vernal, is one of many formations resembling figures and faces. It was explained that the "sentinel" was becoming a hazard to traffic because of deteriorating soil at its base. An unusual rock erosion design, it was blasted off to make gravel fill when Steinaker Reservoir was built in the mid 1960's.
