Show Since "there has been a sort of dispute of Indians on Ihis question for many years the Office can readily understand that if I am to make a decision In the matter there is a possibility that in the event the Whiterivsrs are upheld in their contention that tie Uncompahgres have no right on the grazing lands there will be a tendency to make some of lhe Uncompahgres feel that I have taken the side of the White rivers, while if It is decided that the Uncompahgres do have rights on the grazing lands there will be a tendenoy to make s erne of the Whiterivers feel that I have taken sides with the Uncompahgres. If it ia possible for the Office to do so I will be pleased, indeed, to have one of the traveling officials detailed to this Jurisdiction for the purpose of calling a meeting of the Indians and explaining to them Just what rights the Uncompahgres have on the tribal grazing lands. It is my understanding that Mr, A. C. Coolay, Director of Extension, will return to Salt lake City the first part of November and if agreeable to the* Office I should be pleased to have Mr. Cooley detailed to Fort Dnchesne for the purpose cf going over the matter with the Indians and giving them full explanation of the decision of the Offioe. |
