Abstract Premix burner technology has been used since very early refining and process burners. More recently, off-stoichiometric (both lean and rich), partial-premix techniques have been used to improve burner performance aspects including flame geometry, NOx emissions and stability. This paper reviews the benefits and limitations of this technology and how it has been developed to meet the needs of modern burners.
