Description Leadership of groups is of great importance whatever the group. It has been known for many years that the leader is essential to the adequate functioning of any organization, whether it is formal or informal. Great emphasis is placed upon leadership in adult organizations of many types. It becomes vitally important to most of these groups that they elect or appoint a well qualified person to handle the administration and leadership. This is equally true of juvenile groups. As a practical matter it is much more important since most of these young people have not yet acquired the initiative and experience to lead themselves. With the juvenile groups the leader must train the youngsters as well as guide them. With this fact in mind the problem of adequate, well-trained leadership for groups of young people is of great import. Since the guidance of young people is admitted to be crucial, then it becomes obvious that there is a need for the proper choice of such leadership, and a study of the type of persons who occupy the positions at the present time.
