Additional Information The Blundell Geothermal Power Plant, located about 15 miles northeast of Milford in Beaver County, Utah, is fueled by hot underground water in the Roosevelt Hot Springs geothermal field. Phillips Petroleum Company began to develop this resource in 1975, and signed a development agreement with Utah Power & Light (now PacifiCorp) in 1980. The reservoir temperatures range between 464 and 514°F. Blundell Unit 1, a single-flash system, came online in 1984 as the first commercial geothermal plant in the US outside California. Blundell Unit 2 entered service in 2007, using the spent geothermal fluid from Unit 1 as a heat source. Unit 3, a dual-flash system south of Units 1 and 2, began development in 2007 and when finished should bring the overall net capacity of the Blundell complex to in excess of 60 megawatts. Originally called the Roosevelt Hot Springs Power Plant, it was dedicated on October 24, 1984 and named in honor of Harry Blundell, then President and CEO of Utah Power & Light.
