Show CONCLUSIONS: SEMI-VOLATILE METALS • Vaporization and subsequent nucleation of semi-volatile metals (Pb, Cd, Na) allow nano-meter sized particles to be formed. • Emission of the semi-volatile toxic metals, Pb and Cd, can be managed through reactive scavenging with commercially available sorbents, such as kaolinite and lime. • Size segregation allows scavenging mechanisms to be inferred. • Kaolinite will scavenge Pb, Cd, and Na, but prefers Pb and Na to Cd. • Lime readily scavenges Cd, and Na, but not Pb. • Results suggest melting plays an important role in scavenging mechanisms. • Results suggest the use of mixed sorbents for optimum toxic metal scavenging. |
