Subject Homeless children; Education; Utah
Description Introduction and Background: This Integrative Service Project (ISP) was the creation of more curriculum for The Road Home preschool, a donation drive was implemented to increase their funds and supplies, and a volunteer relationship was established in order to provide the needed assistance. Literature Review: Children living in poverty do not have the same educational resources and experiences as those that have a higher socioeconomic status ...Programs that help children in poverty must be created or improved, and educational resources must be more accessible for children that live in poverty. Community Need and Asset: A few reasons to create further curriculum for children that attend The Road Home preschool include: educating children with a variety of tools, having the preschool be open for more than two hours a week with The Road Home having more to utilize in the preschool, and enhancing the educational experience for this vital age of development and learning. Procedures: In a binder that will remain with The Road Home, I collectively gathered work from the preschool teacher as well as my own research and creation, of descriptions for each lesson plan. Results: Providing more curriculum for the preschool will assist future teachers, staff members, and volunteers to be able to use the curriculum to ensure that the additional hours provided from my ISP will always remain available. Reflection: Working on my ISP has driven my passions even further to help children that are homeless as well as given the opportunity to enhance the community.
