The Utah track and field team captured two event titles and 13 top-five performances Saturday at the Bronco Invitational. The two event titles were claimed by junior Sadie Wassum in the mile run and freshman Ann Wingeleth in the long jump. Wassum finished the mile in a time of 5:03.49. Wingeleth captured first place by jumping a mark of 19 feet, 8.75 inches. This mark was the second-best all-time in Utah indoor history. Behind Wassum in the mile run, juniors Hannah McInturff and Dakota Grossman finished in the top-five earning third and fourth place, respectively. McInturff ran a time of 5:04.89 and Grossman finished the race in 5:16.40. Freshman Holly Stallman also competed in the long jump with Wingeleth. Stallman jumped a mark of 17 feet, 5.25 inches, to earn 12th place. Stallman was also the sole Ute to compete in the 60-meter dash, where she earned third place after posting a time of 7.89 seconds. Stallman placed fifth in the 200-meter run with a time of 25.90 seconds. Junior Mesa Weidle placed 14th in the event after posting a time of 26.44 seconds. Utah earned five of the top-10 spots in the 600-meter run. Junior Grace Englund led the way finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:35.13. Sophomore Caitlin Faust placed fifth behind Englund, running a time of 1:36.04. Freshman Sarah Newton (1:38.09) finished in sixth place, Weidle (1:38.34) notched seventh place, and freshman Brooke Martin (1:38.42) rounded out the Utes in the 600 by finishing in eighth place. The 800-meter run featured freshmen Amanda Gehrich and Melissa Taggart. Gehrich earned fourth place with a time of 2:13.82 and Taggart finished in eighth place after running a time of 2:21.76. In the 3000-meter run, freshman Ashley Licata placed fifth with a time of 10:28.31. Sophomore Jade Mulvey ran a time of 10:41.08 to claim ninth place, while sophomore Hannah Allred followed behind finishing in 10th place with a time of 10:41.78. Senior Dana Snell notched 11th place after running the race in a time of 10:46.07. Competing in the 400-meter run was senior Rhianna Williams, who ran a time of 1:00.21 to earn seventh place. Wingeleth led Utah in the high jump Saturday afternoon, tying for fitth place after clearing a mark of 5 feet, 3.25 inches. Sophomore Eliza Hansen cleared a mark of 5 feet, 1.25 inches to tie for 12th place. Freshmen Suzannah Stark and Piper Wehrli tied for 19th place after clearing a mark of 4 feet, 11.5 inches. In the 4x400 meter relay, two Utah teams competed and finished in third and 10th places. The relay team who finished in third place and finished in a time of 3:58.94 featured Martin, Faust, Newton and Gehrich. The relay team who finished in 10th place in a time of 4:15.28 featured Wassum, Wingeleth, Taggart and Wehrli. |
