Description Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is the most common acute optic neuropathy in older adults, which has no established treatment. It remains unknown how the intraocular cytokine milieu is altered in the acute phase of the disease, which has implications for the design of future therapies and diagnostic testing. The goal of this study was to measure and compare the cytokine concentrations in the aqueous humor of patients with acute NAION and normal age-related cataract controls.
