Show 7 (0.45-~ cut), then through the final filter with a 0.45-J,lm nylon filter medium. At the present time, all of the particulate collection devices and related tubing are made of stainless steel; efforts are under way at this time to obtain teflon -coated or, possibly, quartz materials to help minimize the possibility of contamination. After the process stream passes through the particulate collection devices, it passes through an insulated line, at which point several slipstream samples are taken for various analyses, as listed below: • 14 slpm product gas stream depressurized across a metering valve into the trace element impinger sampling train • 0.5 slpm product sample depressurized across a metering valve into the carbon tubejHg trap • Product gas analyzers • Product gas bag sample for GC analysis These streams were all taken at system pressure with the depressurizing of the sample stream done as closely to the inlet of the sampling device as possible. After the gas stream sampling, all excess gases are metered across the pressure control valve and vented to the atmosphere. The samples produced in the PDTF were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, atomic absorption, x-ray fluorescence (XRF), SEM, and WDS used in conjunction with the SEM. RESULTS Coal Characterization The Illinois No.6 raw coal inorganic composition is listed in Table 1. The coal has about 100/0 ash and 3% sulfur. Quantifiable amounts of all seven trace metals under scrutiny in this project were detected, with the results in Table 1 being an average of five analyses. Major minerals that were identified using |
