In secondary headache syndromes, the system remains activated by a persistent stimulus, such as traction on painsensitive structures by a tumor. In primary headache syndromes such as migraine, the mechanism by which the pain persists and intensifies long after activation has yet to be fully elucidated. There are data suggesting that more than one mechanism may be involved. |
