Show Sir, I received a Circular dated March 19th, 1856, Washington City, D.C. and signed C. C. Andrus, in which I am requested to give my views in regard to the best mode of civilizing and Christianizing the Indians, and also, whether the course pursued by the Government is the one best calculated to effect those objects. This is accompanied with a request to have permission to lay the same before the committee of Indian Affairs. I should be pleased if you would, if you can explain the object of the Circular, as also whether it emanated from you or the Department, or is Mr. Andrus in any pay connected therewith. What are his objects, or any other information, or suggestions concerning this matter. I should be happy to learn from you? B. Y. |
