Delayed Visual Maturation and Cortical Visual Impairment

To: 1. Distinguish the unique clinical and prognostic differences between cortical visual impairment and periventricular leukomalacia; 2. Recognize the clinical profile of the patient with delayed visual maturation but recognize that the long- term follow-up of these patients is necessary and often shows persistent developmental and neurologic problems; 3. Recognize that both delayed visual maturation and cortical visual impairment are poorly defined at the present time and better definitions are necessary in order to describe the clinical problems referred to by these current diagnostic terms.
