Description |
Vitamin A is fat soluble nutrient, essential for conjunctival and corneal epithelial cells, retinal photo-transduction, and RPE cell viability. Vitamin A deficiency can cause night blindness, retinopathy and xerophthalmia. More common in developing countries due to malnutrition than in developed countries, where it is usually secondary to malabsorption. We present here a case series of vitamin A deficiency patients, presenting as unexplained visual loss to our neuro-ophthalmology clinic. We characterize the precipitating factors, demographics and workup leading to diagnosis and treatment. |
