Description Neuromyelitis optica spectrum of diseases (NMOSD) is a group of inflammatory diseases associated with demyelination of the central nervous system involving the optic nerves, brain and spinal cord.1,2 Literature on Neuromyelitis optica Spectrum of Diseases (NMOSD) in West Africans is scarce. Most of the studies on NMOSD in Africa are from North and South African countries, predominantly retrospective descriptive or case series.3 Data on the clinical characteristics, frequency, and distribution of the disease among Africans is still scanty.3 The paucity of African data on MS and NMOSD informs this study.
