Description Idiopathic optic neuritis (ON) and non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) are two of the most common neurogenic causes of visual loss in adults. When the clinical features overlap, ON with papillitis (ONP) and AION may be difficult to distinguish. Since the prognosis, evaluation and treatment are different, we sought features of the fundus appearance that distinguish AION from ONP.
