Description Ophthalmic teaching is underrepresented in medical school, and students do not learn case-based assessments using ophthalmic data like a practicing ophthalmologist. Eye-tracking of gaze patterns during color fundus photography and radiographic imaging review has provided critical insight into medical education. In this study, we use infrared oculography to characterize expert vs. novice gaze behavior while reviewing cases of optic neuropathies and assessing the effectiveness of a training video.
