Christmas NJ, Mead MD, Richardson EP, Albert OM. Surv Ophthalmol 1991; 36: 196- 206. ( Nov- Dec). [ Reprint requests to Dr. D. M. Albert, Dept. of Ophthalmology, Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, 243 Charles Street, Boston, MA 02114]. For this review article, the authors review the literature on secondary optic nerve tumors and combine it with pathological reports and postmortem specimens on file at the David G. Cogan Eye Pathology Laboratory at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. The most frequent source of secondary optic nerve tumors is a primary ocular tumor, usually melanoma or retinoblastoma. Metastatic tumor and hematopoietic malignancies ( leukemia, lymphoma) are next most common. This article is a good review of this subject. Lyn A. Sedwick, M. D. |
