Frank Mason Brown, president of a railroad company, drowned in Marble Canyon near Soap Creek Rapids during an expedition to survey a railroad route. Peter Hansbrough, one of the members of the expedition, memorialized Brown with an inscription on the east wall of the canyon, "F. M. Brown, Pres. D, CC & PR was drowned July 10, 1889 opposite this point." |
