Intersection of beauty + sustainability

Beauty is to be found in the revelation of our very humanity. In the validation of our own human existence we come to better understand and contextualize ourselves within the larger body of the human condition. Since the dawn of man, mankind has constantly pursued greater understanding of his place within the world. The imposition of architecture and the process of viticulture converge on this matter. The cultivation of the vine is a way in which mankind, irrespective of locality, has rooted himself in the understanding of a beloved place. Architecture similarly orients and stabilizes in an otherwise chaotic world by bringing order, boundary, and a framed perspective as to mans' placement. In this project I have sought to engage the most primal element of human existence, that of our senses, as a means of providing a resonant relationship with the land, the vineyard, and the building. By permitting the site and contextual relationships to govern the placement of programmatic components, the design allows each space to capitalize and ground the occupant in a sensual relationship specific to the place in which they reside. For further development the refinement of wine and the ritualization of its tasting provided a model for orchestrating the sensual engagement which occurred within each space.
