Subject Dry Fork; Sinks
Spatial Coverage Vernal (Utah)
Description A 200-yard square section of field on the Aris and Forest Caldwell ranch in Dry Fork canyon was left with gaping hole. The Dry Fork community was left in darkness thtaevening caused by a toppled power pole. The field sunk to a depth ranging from seven to 30 feet. The unusual occurance was attributed to constant soaking of the subsoil, which suddenly flowed out from under the topsoil like thick soup into nearby Ashley Creek.
