Description Dr Abildskov was born in Salem, Utah in 1923. Dr Abildskov received both his B.A. (1944) and his M.D. (1946) from the University of Utah. Dr Abildskov was a Fellow in Internal Medicine (1947-1951) and Instructor (1951-1954) at Tulane University. Dr Abildskov was cardiologist and Chief-of-Service at William Beaumont Army Hospital from 1954-1956. Dr. Abildskov was an Assistant Professor and Professor of Medicine at State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse from 1956-1968. Dr Abildskov returned to Utah in 1968 as Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology and the Director of the Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute since 1971. Dr Abildskov primary interests were the physiologic mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias and electrocardiographic recognition of arrhythmia vulnerability. Dr Abildskov died in 2017. The portrait of Dr Abildskov was painted by Galina Perova in 1996, and is located on the west wall of foyer of the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research Training Institute.
