Description A hardware-software system has been built which measures the three-dimensional positions of multiple points. In most cases, the points are light-emitting diodes which may be attached to wands, gloves, clothing, etc. The position of a light source is measured by scanning the environment and determining planes in which a light source lies. The system may be used in interactive surface design, measurement and specification of motion, and man-machine gesture communication. When the light-emitting diodes are replaced with a laser bean and a laser beam deflection mechanism, the system may be used for scene analysis.
