Show faithful and affectionate dog, Polly, who loved to go to walk with us, our cat bequeathed by Ethel Lovatt, the bird pets who lived in my office windows, and who learned to trust us and eat from ©ur hands, the stars which looked in on our sleeping porch at all A^A A S h t w i t h friendly ^ d unfaltering light, the fields with their varied crops and harvests, the garden and good dark earth. Many hours of deep satisfaction came from all of these when man seemed false and fickle. It has truly been a good year in growth of the spirit, in appreciation of the things that really count in life. Whatever we suffered was in the direct line of duty, and even there we learned the blessedness of persecution for righteousness' sak*. At least we hope it was because of our faith and not our faults. We have no regrets, and are not sorry we came back to North China to try to witness for our Master in Communist China. We are sure that our lives have been enriched and our hearts enlarged by this experience. & * Yet when I look out on the ocean and realize that Mabel and I are really oiit, and on our way to you, a lump fills my throat and I think, "What more can Heaven offer?"
