Description |
Our country is divided when it comes to immigration. Pick up any newspaper and you will find a headline that deals with drug trafficking or building a seven hundred mile long fence between the United States and Mexico. Turn on the television and you will hear key phrases such as illegal or undocumented. Log on to the internet; and you will find the latest state bill proposal to target immigrants. Citizens across; the country voice opposing opinions to the issue of immigration. No matter what side you stand on, people are angry, scared, or misinformed about immigration. More often than not immigrants have become easy scapegoats for the social problems surrounding immigration. In spite of not having full rights to citizenship, immigrants do work and pay taxes, rent or own homes, have familie seven children born here that are citizens, and even give up their own lives serving in our country's military protecting our freedoms. THE LINE BETWEEN us is a creative project that presents the human condition associated with the United States-Mexico border. The intent of this project is to give a humanistic voice to immigrants, create awareness, and create dialog about the ever changing immigration landscape. Themes of place, space, and the human condition are represented throughout the installation. By humanizing the immigration discourse, the project inspires hope for solidarity. |
