Description |
Lyme disease is a multisystem disorder, heralded by a pathognomonic rash and characterized by prominent dermatologic, neurologic, cardiac and meumatologic manifestations. Lyme disease was first described in the United States in 1977, when States et al. (31,32) determined that cases of Lyme arthritis occurred in individuals bitten by the tick, Ixodes dam mini. A similar disease, resulting from a tick bite and characterized by a rash and neurologic sequelae, had been described in the European literature earlier in the century. |
