This is a high magnification view of the lateral aspect of the circumvallate papilla. Identify two taste buds (oval structures) which are paler than the surrounding stratified squamous epithelium. At the top of each taste bud is a taste pore which allows for detection of dissolved food constituents. Illustrated is also the dermal connective tissue. UCLA Histology Collection. |
