Though also titled "Sam Reflecting", the content differs distinctly from Wilson's reflections in obscure objects. This piece consists of two rows of three mounted works. The first (2.) image shows a self-portrait with a separate drawing of stacked dishes on top his head. There is the text "not quite a true likeness" with an arrow pointing towards him, and at the bottom "again, upon further reflection... a "Still Life" drawing doesn't make a very good rug (toupee)." Second (10.), a black and white portrait with the eyes redrawn and colored in the reflection of his glasses. There is the text "Self portrait reflecting the need to wear "Eye Glasses". Third (unnumbered), a scowling portrait, with a sketched mouth and a speech bubble that leads nowhere. The text reads "Self-portrait saying something?.. Seriously...". Fourth (unnumbered), a self-portrait, mid-talking, with a speech bubble that reads "Hey! ART boy!! Saying to myself... "time to grow up and start selling out, you know?". Fifth (unnumbered), a tightly cropped self portrait of the lower half of his face and chest. At the lower center is a plastic doll with a shirt that says "BIG BOY". Sixth (unnumbered), consists of two portraits side by side. The one to the left is realistic, the one to the right a startling, scrambling sketch. At the bottom, it reads "What in the....." and "Well, I never.......". |
