Description |
Stage Station at Hampton's Ford, Box Elder County. This is the site of Hampton's Ford, Ferry and bridge, the bridge being built in 1866. It was the main stage coach line between Ogden and Montana via Malad and Fort Hall. Gift of Bernice Gibbs Anderson. |
Comment |
Ford was used by Indians, fur trappers and mountain men. About 1853 Ben Hampton and William Godbe operated a ferry for emigrant traffic. The site became a "home station" successively for stages of Oliver Conover, Ben Holladay and Wells-Fargo. Also known as Hampton's Bear River Crossing. |
