The Clinical Research Center (CRC) at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center is one of the first such centers in the nation to add an ombudsman patient advocate to its staff in response to a new National Institutes of Health (NIH) mandate to research institutions. The ombudsman, an independent reviewer, will examine research protocols and procedures to ensure that patients fully understand and agree to any and all research procedures that are suggested to them. |
