Description | My summary compares the translations by Shakespeare, Gide, and Pagnol of the important graveyard scene, a turning point in Hamlet. Each version uses words in its own way to convey directly, and to enrich, through secondary meanings, the Hamlet existing int he mind of its writer. Each reveals a Hamlet who uses words powerfully to demonstrate, as he questions, the power of words. |
