She Ouray School Bitch, Bench Canal, Henry Ji» Canal and part of the 1-hiterooJca Canal were constructed in thiS manner. Whan tha Beaeryation was thrown open to entry August 28* 1905, the Indians had approximately 5,000 acres of land under oultivatioi and about 2,000 aoraa in addition, ^diioh had beim cultivated, making a total of approximately 8000 acrea to which they were entitled to a confirmation of the water-rights undsr the terma of the -let of Sarah 3, 1906. Unfortunately, advantage waa not taken of the oppo^unity. The construction of an Irrigation system to«*irrigate the allotted lands of the foraer Uintah i-eaorvation waa authorised by the Aot of June 21, 1906. Tha Act specified that the irrigation system should bo constructed, completed, held ami operated, nnd tho wator appropriated under the laws of the State of Utah* Undor tho laws of Utah, it waa necessary that construction work on each oanal he commenced within six months from tha date of filing tha applioatien for Water-Tight* Construction was started by tha forces under Br.
