It would seem that these pEor.le, or corporations, should hardly be allowed to ccn-tixiue the diversion of the water from the Uintah Reservation without the consent or authority of this Department and except upon just compensation to the Indians for the water used. Sir: Referring to your letter of June 11th, in which you call my attention to the fact that Llr.Cyrus C.Babb, of the U.S.Geological Survey, reported that parties in the vicinity of Heber, Utah, were taking water off the Uinta Reservation, and ordered me to investigate the matter. I went to Heber immediately on receipt of your letter and found that hr.' Bath's report was in the main correct, except that he renort.: that the ditches were in bad repair. I found them in good condition and repair. I judge by that his report was made over a year ago. and I found in addition to three ditches he mentions that Joseph CA and James lacDonald |
