A. Hendricks, Chairman of the House Committee on Claims, and they were afterwards reported favorably to the House by that committee. So far as I know, no further aotion was taken on them. Contrary to the usual procedure in suoh a case, due no doubt to an oversight,,, no item was placed in the Appropriation Bill in accordance with the report. I have no doubt, however, that on the presentation of these faots to the next Legislature, the apparent oversight will be remedied. In the meantime it appears to me that something more should be done to cheofc tho evil complained of. In this oonnection, I may say that a few days ago General J. Franklin Bell oalled on me, and I had a talk with him in reference to this matter. In view of statements that have come to him, BB to conditions existing on the reservation, I considered it proper to write to you again on tho subjoot. Some people are under the impression that the recent Legislature passed a law to the effeot that no saloons oould.be established within ten miles of a reservation.
