Show - 2- Sample with ethylene glycol: The sample was firm and not at all fragile, with very little gross evidence of constructive metamorphism. Microscopic examination showed about 40$ metamorphism, and the crystals were all small and flat Kith remarkably little layering. Crystal size 1- 2 mm. Sample with N- acetyl alcohol; 95# normal depth hoar except a few very long, slender columns was observed. The structure was fragile, but with a rather hard surface crust. Crystal size 2- 5 mm. Sample with 2,3- butanedione: Fragile, coarse- grained depth hoar formed 90$ of the sample. ! Qie crystals, 2- 4 mm in size, were mostly normal depth hoar except for a few with strong growth between layers ( extension at right angles to basal planeK Sample with benzaldehyde: This sample was very firm, hard and fine- grained, with no gross evidence of constructive metamorphism at all. Under the microscope about 20$ was seen to recrystallize to small, ill- formed depth hoar which showed a tendency to appear as plates. Most crystals were under 1 mm. Sample with benzyl alcohol; Ihe sample was fine- grained, moderately firm and exhibited no fragility. Appearance was similar to the samples containing the aldehydes, but the 60# of the crystals converted to depth hoar were more fully developed than in these. The 1- 2 mm crystals showed a moderate tendency to form plates. |
