Abstract |
ENEL has initiated a comprehensive program to comply with air quality standards for thermal power stations in Italy. This program addresses both NOx and S02 control in new and existing tangential and wall-fired boilers. As a part of ENEL's program, a variety of in-furnace NOx control technologies are undergoing extensive evaluation. This paper describes supporting work performed at ABB C-E's Kreisinger Development Laboratory (KDL) at a 15 to 30 MWt pilot scale to evaluate in-furnace low NOx firing systems to be used in Italy on coal, oil, and gas tangentially fired boilers. Technologies evaluated to date include coal nozzle clustering, concentric firing, over fire air (OFA), flue gas recirculation (FGR), and reburning using both natural gas and oil as reburn fuels. Several field demonstrations of these technologies on tangentially fired boilers in Italy have been planned or completed; this paper provides an update on activities in this area. |
