Description |
The Deseret Generation and Power Plant is a massive structure that is located in Kennedy Wash, about 30 mile southeast of Vernal, Utah. Major buildings of the structure reach 600 feet above the valley floor. Construction work extended four years. Milestones of the project include the chimney shell start on November 9, 1981 and the completion July 7, 1982. The turbin foundation was completed April 22, 1982. First steel erection started April 7, 1982. The steam drum was lifted into position in the top of the boiler structure on October 25, 1982. The water treatment plant was started January 1984 and the first coal delivery was also in January 1984. Steam blows were conducted in July 1984. During the peak of construction, 1,100 people were employed. |
