Description |
When the school was established in Dragon, the one-room school was moved from the Black Dragon Mine to the community of Rainbow. A new school was built in Dragon to replace this building. School teachers come and went, finally by 1934 the teacher, Eleanor Stewart had a total of six children enrolled in the school. In 1936, the enrollment increased to nine children and two teachers were employed. Their names were Miss Hurst and Mrs. Muriel Johnson. Because of a decline in the mining, the teachers were given rooms at the boarding house in Rainbow. With the decline and enrollment dropping in the late 1930's the mines were closed. The school house was moved to Bonanza, Utah. Families relocated to that area and resumed their lives while working in the Gilsonite mines there. |
