Show Ox9 -11- if they take t.,eir alloLmenLs on tiie Duchesne, within the UinLah Reservation, will Lhey be required to pay for them at hie rate of $1.25 per acre? If so, why should noL Liie WjiiLe River Utes be required to pay for their alloLmenLs aL tne same price? It has ne.yer been suggested, so far r.s I am aware, that the White Rivers would be required to make such payment when they come to take their lands in severalty on the Uintah reservation. IL is noL known positively whether tiie Uncompahgres would all be willing to settle on tiie Uintah Reservation, but it is inferred that they would from tne recent report o.f tiie Commission provi led , of course, that they are not required to puy for Lhe lands. Again, if Lhey should all agree to setLle there, what would become o.f the Executive Order ReservaLion -- Liie Uncompahgre reservaLion proper? Tiie law (Act August 15, 1894) provides that the lands ascertained to be unsuitable or not required for allotment shall be restored to the public domain and made suoject to entry by the Whites. But would the Uncompahgre8 be willing to give up whatever rights they have in and to said lands in consideration of Uu.ir beirg allowed to Lake lands - all of them - in allotments on 1iie Uintah Reservation? This is a quesLion tiiaL can only be determined by consulting them. |
