Description A portrait of French-Canadian hunter, trapper and guide, Etienne Provost, 1785-1850. Provost was one of the first white men to have seen the Great Salt Lake. In the 1820s and 1830s Provost spent much time in the Salt Lake Valley. Provost gave his name (phonetically) to the Provo River and the city of Provo.
