Abstract Even though natural gas is a clean-burning fuel, future gas combustion systems will have to be designed to further minimize NO x and other emissions to comply with increasingly stringent environmental laws in the United States. Although many manufacturers have started to respond to the new requirements for cleaner burning equipment, even more advanced technology will be needed to meet anticipated future requirements. New burner technology will enable natural gas users to meet environmental requirements cost-effectively while preserving the high efficiency and productivity associated with natural gas. GRI's recent efforts to meet the need for new, lower polluting industrial gas combustion equipment will be presented. Performance of combustion equipment nearing commercial introduction will be described, along with the results of work aimed at meeting future emissions regulations.
