Description A raised erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are highly sensitive for a diagnosis of GCA. It has been reported that thrombocytosis is a more useful marker than an elevated ESR or CRP as measured by the positive predictive values (PPV) and negative predictive values (NPV).
