Athlete's Name DAY ONE: Senior Alissa Atisme highlighted day one of the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic Friday afternoon for the Utah track and field team with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash and helping set a new school record in the 4x100-meter relays. The Utes had three total wins on the day, which also included a victory by sophomore Sarah Newton in the 800. In the 100-meter dash, Atisme finished in first place with a time of 11.81. Senior Raynee Helm Wheelock finished in second with a personal-best time of 12.07 while Jackie Martin placed 10th with a time of 12.43. Moving to the 4x100-meter relay, the Utah "A" squad took home the event title and set a new school record with a time of 46.13. The "A" squad consisted of Wheelock, Jackie Martin, senior Madison Lanford, and Atisme. Utah had six competitors finish the 800, led by Newton's victory with a time of 2:10.18. Coming in behind Newton was seniors Grace Englund, Sadie Wassum, and Megan Perkins-Killian. Englund finished in third with a time of 2:11.10 while Wassum placed 17th with a time of 2:17.41 and Perkins-Killian finished in 19th with a time of 2:17.68. Also competing for the Utes was sophomore Melissa Taggart (21st, 2:18,39), freshman Natalie Platil (23rd, 2:19.54), and sophomore Nicole Griffiths (2:20.10). With these times, Taggart and Platil recorded new personal bests. In the 3,000-meter race, senior Jessica Sams finished in second place with a time of 10:02.15. Redshirt freshman Trina Moreno and sophomore Emma Christensen finished in fourth with a time of 10:31.05 (Moreno), and fifth with a time of 10:48.9 (Christensen). Rounding out the competitors for the Utes was freshman Astrid Lindgren and senior Shaylen Crook. Lindgren finished in eighth place with a time of 10:57.25 and Crook placed 10th with a time of 11:01.70. With these times, Moreno and Lindgren set new personal records. Former Ute Giselle Slotboom won the event with a facility-record time of 9:44.48. The 400-meter hurdles was a strong event for the Utes as all four competitors placed inside the top 15. Freshman Rachel Whipple led the way with a ninth-place finish and a new personal-best time of 1:03.82. Lanford, and freshman Ruby Jane Mathewson placed 10th with a time of 1:03.88 (Lanford) and placing 11th with a time of 1:04.48 (Mathewson). Sophomore Brooke Martin finished in 14th with a time of 1:05.49. Senior Louise Mercer competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a sixth-place finish in a time of 11:23.69. This is a new personal best for Mercer in the event. Senior Mesa Weidle wrapped up day one of the Spring Classic with a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Weidle finished the race in a time of 57.79.
