Sir: On May 17 the Acting Indian Agent of the Uintah and Ouray Agency, Utah, in response to Office request, said that there 7/ers but two Indians under his charge whom he considered capable of handling their allotments to the extent of working orr'leasing them or hiring labor to work them, vis., . ^J 7 Henry Harris, lo. 426 William Taylor, TCo. 629; but that thay should not be permitted to manage their children's allotments because their children are not in regular attendance at school. To guard against making any mistake in the matter, Rev. II. J. Hersey, Reotor of the Episcopal Church, Whiterocks, Utah, was requested to verify the list and advise the Office if, in his opinion, the Indians named were progressive and should be given greater freedom than heretofore in the management of their allotments, and also if he knew of others of the Agenoy whom he considered fitted for this privilege. On July 23 he advised the Office that these two Indians are shrewd business |
